Description
“A deep rooted respect for ‘nature’ and ‘humility’ is the inspiration for my paintings”. City life & village life created new sensitivities and understandings… the blend of these different environments and cultures indirectly flowed in my painting… My paintings are colorful, vibrant, nostalgic at times, and sheer conversational pieces. Subdued and quiet by nature paintings is my language.
My creations represent a beautiful blend of varied geographies and cultures. The passion for cherishing humanity, love and affection, fusion of rainy season and historical places in village and city life are the subjects of my works and folk human figures find a central place in most of my artworks.
I paint a lot of historical monuments and areas, and even ancient architecture like the really old houses in Pune city. I want to preserve them all with my art. Because of development and progress, everything is changing, and the world is becoming a concrete jungle. The old styles and art are vanishing. I want to be able to show people that these places exist – that our India is like this, or that this is what old India used to be, and I try to use a variety of different colours in different mediums like Acrylic on canvas, Charcoal on canvas & Mixed media on canvas to do so.
I feature the rainy season – or the monsoon – a lot. Rain makes me happy; it puts me in the mood and makes me feel like I should paint. And with the rain, there is a lot to show – everything is different at different times. After it has rained, before, at night during the monsoon, in the morning… every ‘time’ is different, and looks and feels special.
Regardless of the subject, I convert it to include the monsoon. My colour scheme may change, the actual subject may change, but the monsoon is constant.
Now painting is not just a technique, it has become a medium of expression for me.

somnathbothe
My self Somnath Bothe, born in 1982 in Paithan, District – Aurangabad, Maharashtra & working in Pune, Maharashtra. I obtained Diploma in Art from Mumbai University (Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune). I have received Gold Medal, Royal Academy, National Level, Gulbarga, Karnataka; Gold Medal, National College Student “Varnika Manav Sanket”, Ujjain & Silver Medal, National College Student “Kalawart Nyas”, Ujjain also. My journey in the art field began with landscapes and portraits. I started thinking about the sensitivity and intent of the paintings… As my entire childhood was spent in the village, a very close relationship with the village.“A deep-rooted respect for ‘nature’ and ‘humility’ is the inspiration for my paintings”. Then education and living in city life created new sensitivities and understandings… the blend of these different environments and cultures indirectly flowed in my painting… My paintings are colorful, vibrant, nostalgic at times, and sheer conversational pieces. Subdued and quiet by nature. I have my own way of showing my creations. My color schemes are modern and flashy but this is intentional, to remind us of the importance of historical places. The fusion of the rainy season and historical places in cities and villages constitute the subjects of my paintings. Now painting is not just a technique, it has become a medium of expression for me. My creations represent a beautiful blend of varied geographies and cultures. The passion for cherishing humanity, love and affection, a fusion of village and city life are the subjects of my works and folk human figures find a central place in most of my artworks.
